Premier League giants Chelsea are considering a summer swoop for Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, according to reports.
Speculation surrounding the future of Polish international Lewandowski has of course been rampant in the media for some time now.
This comes with the 33-year-old, fresh off another scintillating campaign in front of goal, eyeing a move away from Bavaria ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
Speaking ahead of the club’s final Bundesliga out of the season over the weekend, Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic confirmed as much, albeit whilst adding that Lewandowski is expected to see out the remaining year on his current contract:
Bayern director Salihamidžić: “Yes, Lewandowski informed me that he didn’t want to accept our offer and he would like to LEAVE the club”, tells @SkySportDE 🚨🇵🇱 #FCBayern
“Our position has not changed, Lewa has a contract until 2023. That is a fact. Proposal from Barcelona? No”. pic.twitter.com/rONf7E121J

To this point, the outfit most frequently tipped as a summer landing spot for Bayern’s star man have of course been Barcelona.
This comes with Xavi and co. understood to be highly appreciative of Lewandowki’s goalscoring talents, and evidently of the opinion that heading into the new season with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the club’s first-choice centre-forward option is out of the question.
Blues keen
As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media late on Monday is anything to go by, then Barca could yet be challenged for Lewandowski’s signature by another of European football’s heavyweight clubs.
The outfit in question? Chelsea
As per a report from The Guardian, the transfer team at Stamford Bridge have identified the Pole as the ideal addition to the club’s attacking ranks, amid the ongoing struggles of record signing Romelu Lukaku.
The Blues, in turn, are ready to move for his signature in the summer, albeit with ‘Lewa’ understood to favour a move to La Liga with Barcelona.
