Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard has revealed that, even before the transfer window officially opens, ‘there are a few pieces [of business] not too far away’ for his side.
The Villians have endured a tough season to date, switching managers midway through the campaign and seeing the players brought in to replace Jack Grealish struggle to perform for the midlands side.
As a result, they head into their final two games of the season currently sat in 14th place, and while they can finish as high as 9th with a very favourable final set of results, it is a disappointment for a side with ambitions to challenge for European football this campaign.
That has led to Steven Gerrard already turning his attention to summer business, promising the midlands club faithful that ‘next season we will be more competitive.’
And, he revealed, his side will be looking to make use of the free agent market before the window opens.
‘The window hasn’t opened yet but there are a few pieces not too far away. There is a free market as well which can be a bit different. You can bring them in a bit quicker’, he claimed.

Tarkowski on the radar?
One of those on the Villians radar is supposedly Burnley man James Tarkowski.
Having racked up 32 appearances this campaign, the centre-back has continued to be one of the Clarets’ most important players and, now 29, he will almost certainly be looking to make a step up as he comes into his prime.
He would certainly add plenty of experience to the Villa backline should he arrive at Villa Park this summer.
