Philippe Coutinho has sent a message to his former side, Liverpool, ahead of the final gameweek of the 2021/22 Premier League season.
Coutinho is currently on the books of Aston Villa. The Brazilian joined Villa on loan from FC Barcelona but is now set to make a permanent move to the Midlands this summer.
Villa have had an ok season with Steven Gerrard no doubt eager to improve next term after his first summer transfer window.
Before that, though, Aston Villa must face off with Manchester City on Sunday. The game is of little importance to Villa who have nothing left to play for.
However, it is a huge game for Manchester City and Liverpool. If City win they are Premier League champions. But, if City lose or draw and Liverpool beat Wolves, Liverpool will be champions.
As a result, Liverpool fans are no doubt hoping their former player can do a job for them vs the Sky Blues.
However, Coutinho seemed keen to make it clear that he is not going into the City game to try and win it for Liverpool.
Previewing this weekend’s match, the 29-year-old said: “It’s a great game to play. But we want to finish well against a great club, ad that’s it. We always want to improve and do well and finish as high as we can.
“I only care about my new club. I want to play well for them. I have had a lot of messages from Liverpool fans on social media but I don’t look at it that much anyway. My focus is only on the games we have.
“City are one of the best teams in the world. It’s always difficult to play them. But we have played them before and done well and competed throughout the game. That is what we want to do this time and compete on the same level.”
