The race for the 2021/22 Premier League Golden Boot would go down to the final day.
Mohamed Salah of Liverpool, Heung-min Son of Tottenham and, to a lesser extent, Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United, all had a chance of earning the award on the final day.
But with Ronaldo four goals off Salah and not featuring on Sunday anyway, it was a straight race between Mohamed Salah and Heung-min Son.
Salah began the day leading the goal-scoring charts with 22 goals netted, whilst Son had 21.
Salah had a superb first half of the 2021/22 campaign and did look set to run away with the prize. However, after missing a month due to the African Cup of Nations and seeing his form dip in the second half of the season, Son was allowed to claw his way into contention.
The South Korean experienced his most prolific season as a Tottenham star, netting 10 in his last nine league outings before Sunday.
Spurs also, on paper, had the much easier final game as they were taking on a Norwich side who were already relegated and began Sunday with the worst defence in the division. Liverpool, meanwhile, took on Wolves.
Mohamed Salah started on the bench for Liverpool vs Wolves but was brought on shortly before the hour mark.
Son, meanwhile, was in from the off vs Norwich. The Lilywhites absolutely battered Norwich and, 70 minutes in, Son would finally get on the scoresheet vs Norwich, netting the 4th of the day to draw him level with Salah.
The South Korean then netted a second and Spurs’ 5th to go clear of Salah in the goal-scoring charts. However, Salah scored 83 minutes in vs Wolves to go back level with Son, meaning the pair will share the 2021/22 Golden Boot.
