The battle for Burnley star James Tarkowski is beginning to heat up ahead of the summer window swinging open, amid reports that a new favourite for his signature has emerged.
The outfit in question? Everton.
It has of course long been common knowledge that Tarkowski is primed to depart Turf Moor this summer, ahead of the expiration his contract at the end of the month.
Burnley’s relegation from the top-flight of English football 24 hours ago only proved the final nail in any remaining hope on the part of the Clarets of changing the mind of their star defender at the last minute.
To this point, a whole host of clubs have been tipped as potential landing spots for the 29-year-old, including the likes of Newcastle United and Aston Villa.
As alluded to above, though, on Monday, a new front-runner is understood to have emerged in the Tarkowski sweepstakes – Everton.
As per a report from The Daily Telegraph, the Toffees, fresh off staving off their own potential drop into the Championship, have identified the twice-capped England international as the ideal addition to the club’s backline.
In turn, amid claims elsewhere that the Merseyside club have already tabled an altogether considerable contract proposal to Tarkowski, Everton are now viewed as having ‘jumped to the front of the queue’ for the defender.

The latest word in the media has too begun to take effect with bookmakers across the United Kingdom, with the odds of Tarkowski taking his talents to Goodison Park having this evening been slashed to just 4/5.
🔵 Everton are now odds-on to sign James Tarkowski when he becomes a free agent.
✍️ The Toffees have reportedly offered him a 90k a week deal.
