It seems only fitting that Manchester United’s 2021/22 campaign draw to a close with a new wave of leaks highlighting the in-fighting and pettiness of many people currently working at the club.
Throughout the campaign, we have seen countless leaks emerge that suggested players were unhappy with management and, in cases such as Harry Maguire’s, unhappy certain players were featuring over them.
Now, with United’s final game of the season behind us, a whole host of leaks have emerged via the Manchester Evening News.
First up comes the issues with Ralf Rangnick. The German has won little at the top level, but then again, neither have most of United’s current side.
Despite this, some at the club clearly believed that Ralf Rangnick was beneath them. It has been claimed that those close to one United player referred to Rangnick as ‘specs’ behind his back, whilst the squad’s disillusionment was a source of fascination to Sir Alex Ferguson, who used backchannels to gauge the mood.
Furthermore, one Manchester United player complained that Rangnick ‘talked to him like a child’ and ‘did not give a s***e’ about Rangnick’s advice. Another player was dubbed a ‘teacher’s pet’.
Moving on to the player’s issues with one another. The MEN report that one senior United star spoke disparagingly of any competitor for his position, whilst some players found Anthony Elanga’s playing time mind-boggling.
The issues do not stop there, though, with it added that Eric Bailly questioned how Harry Maguire could continue to start for United whilst underperforming. Another player claimed Maguire was ‘not good enough’ and several teammates agree Bruno Fernandes’s wasteful approach is ‘a problem’.
