NEWBURY, Massachusetts — A 47-year-old woman was killed at her family’s farm over the weekend when a car rapidly reversed into the farmstand’s checkout area, authorities said.
Susan Sforza Nico, 47, of Seabrook, New Hampshire, was struck Saturday afternoon at the Sforza Family Farm in the village of Byfield in Newbury, according to the Essex district attorney’s office.
The vehicle “suddenly accelerated rapidly in reverse and crashed into the checkout area of the farmstand,” the statement said.
A 57-year old man and an 8-year old girl were also struck and required hospitalization. Both have been stabilized according to the statement.
The vehicle’s driver, a 70-year-old woman, is cooperating with the investigation and has not been charged.
No other names were released.
The crash, including why the vehicle reversed, remains under investigation by local and state police.
