A small section of fans in attendance at FC Barcelona’s latest outing made use of the opportunity to send a message to midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
Dutch international de Jong, of course, has been hotly tipped for a Camp Nou departure.
Despite his unquestionable talents, and boss Xavi Hernandez’s persistent assurance that the former Ajax man remains central to his plans, the board in the Catalan capital are understood to be taking into serious consideration de Jong’s sale.
In turn, to this point, one club and one club only have been pushed in the media as the midfield maestro’s most likely landing spot.
The outfit in question? Manchester United.
Owing to the imminent departures of all of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata, the Red Devils are expected to be in the market for fresh blood in the middle of the park throughout the upcoming summer.
And de Jong is one such player understood to sit towards the top of the wishlist at Old Trafford, where he would of course be in line for a reunion with former manager Erik ten Hag.
‘Waiting for you…’
And, as alluded to above, amid their side’s ongoing links to de Jong, one small section of the Man United faithful, this week, made use of the chance to send a crystal clear message in the direction of the 25-year-old.
For those not aware, Barcelona were in action on Thursday night, after making the trip to Australia for a friendly meeting with the A-League All Stars.
The Blaugrana ultimately emerged on the right side of a 3-2 scoreline, owing to goals on the part of Ousmane Dembele, Adama Traore and Ansu Fati.
Post-match, though, it was the aforementioned de Jong who took centre stage, as calls for the Dutchman to swap Catalunya for Manchester arrived by way of the crowd, amid the assurance that ‘ten Hag is waiting for you’:
