Tottenham Hotspur have made Alessandro Bastoni their number one target for defence, according to Alasdair Gold.
Spurs have already started work on their second summer signing following the capture of Ivan Perisic on a free transfer.
However, they face a major hurdle as they try to land the Italian defender who needs to be convinced over the move.
The north London club are ready to back Antonio Conte this summer following the club’s owners ENIC investing £150 million into the club.
They want to give their manager his top targets and Bastoni is one of those players.
In terms of agreeing on a deal, Tottenham are confident that a fee and wages will be no issue.
The challenge they face is convincing the player that now is the right time to leave his boyhood club for the Premier League.
Bastoni signed for Inter Milan aged just 19-years-old and in the last two seasons has become an integral player for the Nerazzurri.
Conte was the manager who thrust the 23-year-old into the team at Inter and the player is understood to be keen to reunite with the Spurs boss.
The defender now needs to decide whether the time is right to depart Inter and Spurs are prepared to wait for his decision.
Inter’s stance over the player could also influence his decision with the Italian club needing to raise funds to boost their own arrivals.
He has just two years remaining on his contract and given Spurs’ willingness to pay at least £51 million, they may decide now is the time to cash in.
Conte’s side do have alternative targets in Villarreal’s Pau Torres and RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol.
