Kalvin Phillips, now 26, has been a mainstay in Leeds’ midfield for many years now.
The Englishman is a Leeds native and came up through their youth ranks. Since breaking into the first-team, Phillips has notched an impressive 234 appearances for The Whites, scoring 14 and assisting 13 in the process.
It is not his goal contributions, though, which have made Phillips such a key cog in both Marcelo Bielsa and Jesse Marsch’s side.
This has instead been his defensive prowess and relentless work ethic. Such traits earned the midfielder a regular starting spot in Gareth Southgate’s England set-up over the last year+.
And with Leeds only just surviving the drop in 2021/22, it is expected that someone of Phillips’ quality will make the step up to a top-six side in the near future.
But who will that be? According to Betfair, Manchester City are the favourites to land Phillips with odds of 4/7.
Fernandinho has left the club, meaning Manchester City do need another defensive midfielder to provide cover/ competition for Rodri.
However, given how often the Spaniard is relied upon, perhaps Phillips may turn down a move due to a lack of game time.

Outside of Manchester City, Arsenal are priced at 6/1, Newcastle United at 9/1, Manchester United at 10/1 and Aston Villa at 14/1 to land the midfielder.
Of said quartet, Manchester United are one of the only sides that could realistically afford to sign Phillips. However, he may not want to join the club due to his family’s allegiance to Manchester United.
