Manchester United and Chelsea could be set to go head to head for the signing of Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana this summer, according to reports in France.
The defender suffered a severe injury in pre-season of the 2021-22 campaign, and did not make his return to the midlands side until April, which put the buffers on potential interest from Real Madrid and several other sides around Europe.
However, he has continued to excel since his return, helping the Foxes recover a poor season and turn it into an eighth-placed finish, something that looked unlikely when he returned to the side.
And that has not gone unnoticed, according to French outlet RMC Sport, who claim that both Manchester United and Chelsea are keen to reignite their interest in the defender this summer.
80m euro price tag
However, with the 21-year-old having signed a new contract this season which will run until 2027. it would take a Leicester City club record sale for him to depart.
According to the report, ‘it will take at least 80 million euros’ for Leicester to part ways with Fofana, and with Brendan Rodgers’ side already set to lose Youri Tielemans this summer, it remains unclear even if that would suffice.
But, given that both the Blues and the Red Devils are in need of reinforcements in their backline, and with Fofana still only 21 years old with 2 seasons of Premier League football under his belt, a deal could make sense for the Premier League giants.
