Kanye West has never shied away from speaking his mind. The iconic rapper has used his platform to share his thoughts on politics, music, religion and even his own legacy.
“I don’t care about having a legacy, I don’t care about being remembered,” the Yeezy designer told Time magazine in April 2015. “The most important thing to me is while I’m here, while we’re having fun, while we’re going to sleep and breathing oxygen, and living life, and falling in love, and having pain, and having joy, is like, ‘What can I do with my voice, what can we do for each other to make life easier, make life doper for our kids as they grow up?’ You know, they were born into a broken world and we’re like the clean-up crew.”
He added at the time: “All these walls that keep us from loving each other as one family or one race – racism, religion, where we grew up, whatever, class, socioeconomics — what makes us be so selfish and prideful, what makes not want to help the next man, what makes us be so focused on a personal legacy as opposed to an entire legacy of a race?… When humanity’s gone, what do we give to this little planet that we’re on, and what could we do collectively, removing the pride?”
While West balances his successful career as a rapper and a fashion designer, he often touts raising his four children — North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm, whom he shares with Kim Kardashian — as some of his most prized accomplishments.
“I think sometimes people are kind of bashful to be super dads,” West gushed during a confessional on The Kardashians in May 2022, after it was revealed that he rented a firetruck to drive his children to school. “Everybody wants to be, like, the cool dad and sometimes you just gotta, like, wear the fire hat, you know what I mean? Sometimes you’ve got to wear the Easter Bunny costume.”
While the Selfish author filed for divorce in February 2021, West has made it a priority to remain close to their kids.
“My solace comes from seeing my kids and getting a solid schedule,” the Illinois native told Hollywood Unlocked’s Jason Lee in January 2022, noting he bought a house across the street from Kardashian. “That’s why I even got the house. … Nothing with my career, with this rap, with this media, with none of that [is] gonna keep me from my children.”
