Manchester United appear to have taken one step closer to landing Frenkie de Jong this summer.
This of course comes with de Jong having endured a less than great time at FC Barcelona since his move from Ajax in 2019.
At the time, the Dutchman was viewed as one of the best young central midfielders in Europe, and was expected to go to replace Sergio Busquets at the Camp Nou.
However, Busquets has stuck around and, as a result, de Jong has been pushed further forward into more of a number 8 role and, on occasion, into the 10 position.
But with Erik ten Hag now in the Manchester United dugout, it has been speculated that De Jong could link back up with the manager who got the best out of him, whilst also playing alongside former teammate, Donny van de Beek.
And, as mentioned above, Man United appear to be closing in on a move for the Dutchman.
It has been claimed on Friday that De Jong has agreed terms on a move to Manchester United, though he required some persuading. The midfielder is believed to have spoken to manager Erik ten Hag and former United player Daley Blind.
In terms of a transfer fee, it is reported that Man United and Barcelona are around £18m apart at the moment:
