Chelsea and England midfielder Mason Mount has told Thomas Tuchel what his best position is.
This comes after Mount lined out for England vs Italy on Saturday evening.
The Three Lions faced off with the current European Champions in their 3rd Nations League game of the current break.
After losing to Hungary and drawing with Germany, England needed a win on the day to stand any real chance of topping their group.
However, Gareth Southgate’s side went on to draw 0-0 in a pretty dull game, which now means England are bottom of their group with three games to play.
One of the few bright sparks for England vs Italy was Mason Mount. And, speaking after the game, Mount has been expressing how much he enjoys playing as a no.10, which is what he did vs Italy:
“It gave me more freedom to roam, try and find spaces and try to link the midfield to the attacking boys, I found myself in space a couple of times to shoot but I didn’t do well enough,” Mount said.
“It was too easy for the ‘keeper, I needed to look for the corners and yeah, it is a difficult one to take because I feel as though we could have come away from the game with more and we are frustrated with the performance.”
However, whilst Mount may enjoy playing as a no.10, Chelsea do not currently operate with one under Tuchel.
Instead, the German deploys a 3-4-3, with Mount generally played out wide behind the striker. And whilst it may not be the 23-year-old’s favourite position, he still managed to score 13 and assist 16 from that role last campaign.
