Tottenham are interested in AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi, according to reports stemming from Spain.
Tottenham are, of course, in the market for some fresh legs at centre-back this summer. This comes with Antonio Conte deploying a three-at-the-back system, something Spurs did not have that much experience with before 2021/22.
As a result, their squad is not really set up to play such a system, especially on the left side of a back-three where left-back Ben Davies is their only real option.
So, it was not too surprising to see it reported that the Lilywhites are in the market for a centre-back or two this summer.
Their main target for this spot appears to be Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni. The 23-year-old won the Serie A with Conte in 2020/21 and is highly rated by many in Italy.
However, a move for Bastoni has stalled, with Inter understood to be more open to selling Milan Skriniar or Stefan de Vrij over the Italian.
Now, with a deal for Bastoni yet to be concluded, Tottenham have been linked with another central defender.
As per reports stemming from Spanish outlet Marca, Tottenham are competing with Atletico Madrid for AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi.
It is added that Tottenham have been after Disasi for two years and are interested in signing him this summer.
Disasi joined Monaco from Stade Reims in 2020 and has gone on to feature 80 times for them, including in several European games.
The centre-back, who is currently under contract until 2025, has also been handed the captains armband several times in 2021/22 despite being just 24 years of age.
