Manchester United have shown a ‘genuine interest’ in Ajax forward Antony, but despite that have not tabled an official bid for the Brazilian as of yet.
That is according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who adds that ‘internal discussions’ have taken place around Erik ten Hag’s former player.
Antony, who appeared 23 times in the Dutch top-flight last campaign, grabbed 8 goals and 4 assists and caught the eye with some silky footwork.
And, speaking last month, Ten Hag, who took him to Amsterdam in 2020, was quick to heap praise on the wide man.
‘If Antony were to go, it would be a loss for Ajax, because you have no one in the current selection who can take over his position’, he claimed.
Manchester United have genuine interest in Antony, of course Erik ten Hag knows him so well – still no bid, just internal discussions. 🇧🇷 #MUFC

Manchester United in need of forwards
As part of Ralf Rangnick’s scathing criticism of Manchester United during his time at Old Trafford, the lack of ‘modern forwards’ was a key facet.
Anthony Martial was sent out on loan, and beyond Cristiano Ronaldo, there was no one else capable of leading the line for the Red Devils.
‘Cristiano is not a central striker or does not want to play in that position,’ said Rangnick.
‘It’s obvious that the club needs, I would say, at least, two new strikers who just give this team more quality and more options. I wouldn’t even call it wingers.’
‘Two strikers and modern strikers, that do not necessarily have to be wingers.’
Antony would certainly fill one of those spots, but it seems likely that they will also need another should they wish to challenge for any major silverware next season.
And, having missed out on Darwin Nunez, now set to join Liverpool, it is unclear who they will turn to.
