Reports from Spain have credited Manchester United with an interest in Real Madrid left-back, Ferland Mendy.
Manchester United are in need of a serious rebuild under new boss Erik ten Hag. And whilst left-back isn’t United’s most pressing position in need of improvement, the Red Devils could still find better options than their current players.
Luke Shaw is their main left-back, but he endured a rough 2021/22 campaign that was not helped by injury issues and a change in manager.
Outside of Shaw, Manchester United have very little quality. Alex Telles has underwhelmed in England since his switch from FC Porto and is clearly not at the level United want to be at.
Elsewhere, Brandon Williams is back at Old Trafford after a less than inspiring loan stint with Norwich – who ended 2021/22 with the worst defensive record in the Premier League.
So, it is fair to assume that Mendy would help improve United’s defence should he sign.
Defensa Central reports that Real Madrid are setting Ferland Mendy’s asking price at €50m, with the France international left-back seeing a move to the Premier League mooted, with Manchester United and Chelsea among his suitors.
The 27-year-old is currently under contract at the Bernabeu until 2025. He would join Real in 2019 from Lyon and has since made 105 appearances for the club, scoring five and assisting nine in the process.
Should Mendy sign, he would be the second Madrid defender to join United in the space of a year after Raphael Varane swapped the Spanish capital for Manchester last summer.
