Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Sassuolo and Italy striker, Gianluca Scamacca.
Sassuolo signed Scamacca all the way back in 2017, when he joined the club from PSV’s youth system.
The forward subsequently impressed on loan, and was finally handed a chance at his parent club this past season.
And, so far, Scamacca is taking full advantage of that opportunity. He scored 16 goals in 36 Serie A outings in 2021/22. He was also called up to the Italian national team for the first time in September of last year.
Scamacca is under contract with his current side until 2026 and would likely prove a solid addition to an Arsenal side lacking any real firepower.
PSG eye Scamacca
Now, however, Arsenal appear to have been dealt a big blow on the Scamacca front.
This comes with it reported that French giants PSG are progressing in a deal for the hitman.
Sassuolo are understood to have set a €50m asking price for their star striker, with PSG having offered €35m + bonuses:

It is not known if Sassuolo have rejected the bid or not, but you would assume PSG can come back in and match the €50m asking price anyway.
The Ligue 1 Champions can also offer Scamacca Champions League football in 2022/23, whilst Arsenal will only be playing in the Europa League next term.
