Premier League outfit Arsenal have, on Thursday, unveiled the results of the club’s Goal of the Season competition.
And the winner should come as no real surprise.
As confirmed in a series of posts across the club’s social media platforms, the Gunners faithful have opted for a Granit Xhaka long-range stunner as the finest individual effort netted by a member of Mikel Arteta’s squad in 2021/22.
The goal in question was forthcoming during a Premier League meeting between Arsenal and Manchester United back in April, when midfielder Xhaka drove a wonderful strike beyond the clutches of David de Gea from 25 yards, to restore the hosts’ two-goal advantage at the Emirates.
The Swiss international secured a hefty 31% of the votes cast, beating out competition from Alexandre Lacazette (vs Southampton) and Gabriel Martinelli (vs Newcastle).

Vieira incoming
Elsewhere on the Arsenal front, it has of course proven an altogether productive day to date when it comes to the club’s endeavours on the transfer front.
This comes with those in a position of power on the red half of north London having thrashed out a deal for the first summer addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad.
In something of a bolt from the blue, a short time ago, it was confirmed by a host of reliable sources that the Gunners have reached a definitive agreement with Portuguese giants Porto over the signature of Fabio Vieira.
Fabio Vieira set to join Arsenal from Porto. Fee €35m + €5m, 5yr deal. 22yo AMF flying to London today & will undergo medical before completing move. Process started + managed by Jorge Mendes, @TheAthleticUK after @pedromsepulveda scoop #AFC #FCPorto https://t.co/b839GEGBRC
