Man United miss out as midfield target agrees to terms with PSG

Word stemming from the media late on Friday evening suggests that Manchester United are primed to miss out in the club’s pursuit of a key summer transfer target.

The player in question? Vitinha.

For those not aware, confirmation was forthcoming earlier today that talented midfielder Vitinha had, alongside Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona and Derby County starlet Malcolm Ebiowei, been identified as the ‘primary focus’ of the transfer team at Old Trafford ahead of next season.

In fact, the reliable Jonathan Shrager even went as far as to suggest that negotiations had been opened between the Red Devils and Vitinha’s camp over the terms of a contract.

Just hours on, though, any such hopes on the part of United of landing the 22-year-old appear to have been definitively ended.

This comes owing to another of European football’s heavyweights entering the race for Vitinha in altogether decisive fashion.

As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Paris Saint-Germain ‘have reached an agreement on personal terms’ with the former Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee.

Vitinha’s signing is understood to have emerged as something of a ‘priority’ for new PSG sporting director Luis Campos, considered a potentially ‘top player’ for the future.

Talks, in turn, have now been opened between the French champions and FC Porto, with a deal viewed as altogether likely to be struck over the days ahead.
