Manchester United’s stance on signing a striker in the 2022 summer transfer window has been revealed.
After Edinson Cavani’s contract expired, Manchester United currently have a 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo as their only centre-forward.
Marcus Rashford could be used in that role, but as shown during stints under Ralf Rangnick last term, the Englishman does not look too comfortable up front.
Of course, Erik ten Hag could give Anthony Martial, who has returned from his loan with Sevilla, a second chance. But the Frenchman has proven on countless occasions that he simply isn’t good enough to be a no.9 in the Premier League – meaning he is likely to be moved on this summer.
So, it seemed obvious that the Red Devils would be in the market for a centre-forward in the coming months.
However, that does not look to be the case anymore. As per the Independent, when Manchester United realised they were going to miss out on signing Darwin Nunez to Liverpool, they didn’t immediately move on to their next target. And the current feeling is that it’s better to wait, with RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku on the market next summer:

That seems like a poor move, though, as it is hard to see United being able to attract Nkunku if the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, etc, are sniffing around.
Even his current side, RB Leipzig, are much more likely than United to be able to offer the Frenchman Champions League football next term.
