Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea could be set to go head-to-head for the services of former Liverpool transfer wiz Michael Edwards this summer as the former Reds key man looks set to return to football.
As reported by The Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel, both United and Chelsea have been put on notice that Edwards could be prepared to make a comeback in the Premier League after previously stepping away from his Liverpool post as both the Red Devils and the Blues are out to revamp their hierarchical structure this summer.
Michael Edwards’ availability has alerted Man Utd and Chelsea. News of recent interest from Ajax, too. Edwards believed to want a longer break from football after leaving Liverpool but there’ll be no shortage of offers when he’s ready to return. https://t.co/cIHIHkaSp3

It is expected that Edwards will be one of the hottest market commodities this summer if he does decide to rejoin the fray at the top level of European football, but United and Chelsea could be in pole position to make a move with a view of naming him sporting director.
Chelsea certainly has an avenue of approach for Edwards after the Blues have parted ways with Marina Granovskaia, but Manchester United surely are in with a chance of their own after the club has put faith in Erik ten Hag and is hoping to undertake a considerable refit under the Dutch tactician.
Certainly, the manner in which United has struggled to secure transfer targets this summer could do with Edwards and his expertise given his track record at Liverpool that saw him spearhead deals for the likes of Alisson, Virgil Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Andy Robertson, Thiago, and Fabinho.
With United still struggling to get a deal over the line for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, a potential arrival of Edwards at Old Trafford would come at not a moment too soon for the English giants as they hope to reestablish their credentials as the premier club in the country.
