French Champions Paris Saint Germain are close to appointing former Nice boss Christophe Galtier as their new management, with Mauricio Pochettino set to be sacked in the coming days.
The Argentine coach helped the Parisians regain their status as Ligue 1 Champions, but saw his side knocked out of the Champions League, the competition by which every PSG boss is judged, by Real Madrid in the last 16, meaning that his future in charge in Paris was never secure.
Galtier currently manages fellow Ligue 1 side Nice, who he took over just last summer, and has previously worked with incoming Director of Football Luis Campos during their time together with Lille, where they managed to pip PSG to the title in 2021.
Before that, Galtier spent 8 years with Saint Etienne, building his pedigree as one of the top coaches in France, and will not get his chance to impress on the European stage with a strong squad.
PSG keen to recruit locally
Speaking to Le Parisian, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi spoke about the importance going forwards to recruit locally, as opposed to spending extravagant funds on international stars.
‘My goal for the next few years is to have only Parisian players in our team’, he revealed. ‘There is so much talent in our region. The best players from our region deserve to play for PSG. It will take time, but it is a goal.’
And, in Kylian Mbappe, they have the perfect example.
‘Eleven years ago I said that I wanted to train the future Messi, today I say that we want to train the future Mbappe, who would also come from Paris! It’s not easy, but we have everything we need to succeed’, he added,
