A man has been charged with the murder of his 89-year-old grandmother in south London, the Met Police said.
Verushan Manoharan, 31, was charged on Wednesday evening.
The victim – who has been named as Sakunthala Francis – had been found with stab wounds at a home on Brigstock Road in Thornton Heath at about 9.20pm on Tuesday.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Manoharan is due to appear in custody at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
Her family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
The Metropolitan Police said a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
Enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances of what happened, but nobody else is being sought in connection with her death at this stage.
