La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are stepping up the club’s pursuit of a member of Antonio Conte’s backline at Tottenham Hotspur, according to reports.
The player in question? Emerson Royal.
Brazilian international Emerson, of course, has been hotly tipped for a move away from north London this summer.
This comes with the transfer team at the Tottenham Hotspur team known to be pushing for the signature of Middlesbrough’s Djed Spence, culminating in the inevitable takeaway that the Lilywhites are willing to part ways with their current first-choice right-wing-back.
Despite an upturn in form over the latter months of the campaign, Conte, it would seem, remains of the opinion that Emerson is simply not of the level required to be a starter in a side hopeful of kicking on towards the very top of the English game over the seasons to come.
As alluded to above, though, one outfit who appear altogether more keen on the talents of the 23-year-old are Atletico Madrid.
In fact, Los Colchoneros have, as per Italian transfer journalist Marco Conterio, entered into talks with their counterparts at Spurs, over a potential summer deal for the Brazilian.
Diego Simeone and co. are said to be ‘pressing’ for Emerson’s signing, in the knowledge that the finest form of the defender’s career came whilst in Spain, prior to his Premier League switch last summer.
The terms of a loan deal featuring the option to buy, in turn, are currently under discussion.
