Manchester United fans may finally no longer have to wait to get their main man this summer as the Red Devils have struct terms with Spanish giants Barcelona over the transfer of star Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
Per reports from BBC Sport, United and Barça have come to an agreement in what should end in the Ajax academy graduate making his way to Old Trafford this summer in a deal valued at £56million.

Baring any unforeseen complications, De Jong would become the first signing under the new Erik ten Hag regime on the red half of Manchester, with the United boss reuniting with one of the key assets under his command that saw Ajax reach the semi-finals of the Champions League four seasons ago.
De Jong, 25, is also expected to pull-in a wage packet of £250k-per-week according to the Mirror’s David McDonnell, which should come as no surprise given his stature in the European game.
As Ten Hag presided over his first training session as United boss yesterday, there will no doubt be a renewed spirit of optimism among Red Devils fans after the protracted transfer saga looks set to be put to bed, which would hopefully get the ball rolling on further necessary deals that would see United strengthen across multiple key areas in the team before the beginning of the 2022-23 Premier League campaign.
Despite the impending deal for De Jong, further creativity could also come through the club’s Carrington training center in the vein of Danish star Christian Eriksen, who United remain interested in at the time of writing but are made to sweat as the former Tottenham creator-in-chief is still mulling over terms put forth by Brentford.
Beyond the desire to add both De Jong and Eriksen into the first-team ranks, Ten Hag remains keen on another former pupil as United continues to monitor young defender Jurriën Timber given the club’s need to improve on its options in defense.
Man United fans will certainly be hoping that a completed deal for De Jong will open the transfer flood gates in due course.
