This article will see us focus on current Premier League champions, Manchester City.
Given what a dominant force City have been over the last few years, they always provide some solid FPL picks.
However, Pep Guardiola is well known for his rotating of players – dubbed ‘Pep roulette’ in FPL circles – which can often make choosing City players slightly harder than picking assets from other top sides.
But if you can select the right Sky Blues stars, they will garner you a fair amount of points.
With this in mind, 101 have taken a look at the best Manchester City players for your FPL team.
Erling Haaland, forward (11.5m)
One of the most anticipated price reveals of FPL 2022/23 was, of course, Erling Haaland.
The hitman signed for Manchester City over the summer and, after hitting nearly a goal a game for several years running in Germany, Haaland could end up being one of the best strikers in England.
After being released with a price of 11.5m, there is a strong case to be made that Haaland is a great option – especially when Harry Kane, whose price has not been revealed yet, is expected to cost more than the Norwegian.
One draw back with Haaland is that he may take some time to adapt to Pep Guardiola’s system. But if he is still able to come anywhere close to the goal return he managed for BVB, the youngster will be well worth his price.
Joao Cancelo, defender (7.0m)
At 7.0m, Cancelo is expected to be one of the most expensive defenders on FPL this year.
But, much like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson to a lesser extent, he should be worth it.
City generally finish each season with the best or second-best defensive record in the Premier League, whilst Cancelo also chips in with a solid amount of goal contributions – netting one and assisting seven in the league last campaign.
And, though a number of Citizens players are subject to ‘Pep roulette’, Cancelo is one of the few who starts more often than not, featuring in 36 of the Sky Blues’ 38 league games in 2021/22.
But, should Manchester City sign Marc Cucurella from Brighton, as they have been tipped to do, the Portuguese may see his game time slightly reduced, which is something to consider.
Ruben Dias, defender (6.0m)
The final Manchester City player you should consider signing is Ruben Dias. At 6.0m, he is one of the pricier defensive options on FPL, but City’s consistently impressive defensive record does make him a good pick.
The Portuguese is also arguably Pep Guardiola’s no.1 centre-back, meaning he generally starts more games than John Stones or Aymeric Laporte.
Granted, he did only feature in 29 league games last season, but a large reason for that was injury, rather than the stopper being a victim of Guardiola’s constant rotation.
