Police are asking a thief to “do the right thing” after a baby’s ashes were stolen from a car in Regents Park in London.
A number of items were snatched from a woman’s BMW on Tuesday 21 June, including a sentimental locket.
The locket contained the ashes of her baby, police say, and were of huge personal value.
She had been attending an event in Marylebone Green, between Chester Road and The Outer Circle when the items were taken, between 12.30pm and 1.30pm.
PC Andy Goodyer, from the Royal Parks Operational Command Unit, said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time, and saw someone behaving suspiciously by the cars to come forward.
“I am also issuing a direct plea to the person responsible: The pendant/locket that you took may appear insignificant but it contains the ashes of the victim’s baby. Please do the right thing so that we can return this to her.
“We have today issued an image of a similar item of jewellery. If you have been offered one for sale in the past week, please get in touch.”
Anyone with information is asked to call police via 101 quoting reference CAD1571/30Jun.
The pendant can be posted to police at the following address: FAO PC Goodyer, The Old Police House, Hyde Park, London W2 2UH.
