In this article, we will highlight the top 10 midfielders worth picking up in your Fantasy Premier League side for the 2022/23 campaign.
10. Gabriel Martinelli, Arsenal (6.0m)
With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang now at Barcelona, we should finally get to see Gabriel Martinelli used on a regular basis for the Gunners.
The Brazilian became a regular feature in the second half of last campaign after Aubameyang was frozen out and moved to Barca. This saw him go on to score six goals and provide seven assists for the Gunners, a tally he should improve upon now he is expected to be a regular starter for an entire campaign.
Granted, Martinelli could be subject to rotation, but he is currently the only natural left-winger at Arsenal.
9. James Ward-Prowse, Southampton (6.5m)
The key to having a successful FPL team is finding at least one budget midfielder to fit into your side.
One of the very best from this category last season was James Ward-Prowse.
The central midfielder is a set-piece specialist and this allowed him to rack up 10 goals and five assists last term.
Said goal contributions helped make JWP the 9th-best midfielder on FPL in 2021/22, with all the players above him now worth at least 1.5m more.
8. Dejan Kulusevski, Tottenham (8.0m)
Dejan Kulusevski had a superb start to life at Tottenham in the middle of last season.
He was brought in from Juventus and went on to score five and assist nine in the final 18 game weeks of the season.
If he is able to replicate similar form over an entire campaign, he would be one of the best midfielders on FPL.
But the reason he is not higher on this list is because Tottenham recently spent big on Richarlison, meaning we could see the Swede more heavily rotated this term.
7. Jack Harrison, Leeds United (6.0m)
Jack Harrison has been a great budget midfield option for the last few years and is expected to be once again in 2022/23.
Admittedly, Harrison’s form did suffer in the first half of 2021/22 when Leeds were playing poorly.
However, Harrison was back to his best under Jesse Marsch, and was able to score four goals in the last eight game weeks of the campaign.
6. Wilfried Zaha, Crystal Palace (7.0m)
Wilfried Zaha is one of the better value-for-money midfielders on FPL this season.
The Ivorian scored 14 in the league last season, despite missing four games due to the African Cup of Nations.
And whilst a lot of the players who scored similar points to Zaha last term have gone up in price, he has maintained his 7.0m value.
5. Jarrod Bowen, West Ham (8.5m)
Jarrod Bowen has received a serious price upgrade this season.
However, he should still be worth the 8.5m as he has firmly cemented himself as West Ham’s main source of goals.
Bowen scored 12 in the league during 2021/22 and was awarded 17 assists on FPL.
The only thing to be wary of with Bowen, though, is that a lot of his assists did not actually count in real life and were only given by FPL. So should FPL not be as favourable this campaign, he may not be the third-highest scoring midfielder, like he was in 2021/22.
4. Bukayo Saka, Arsenal (8.0m)
Saka ended 2021/22 with the most goals and most assists of anyone aged 21 or under in the Premier League.
This made the Arsenal star the 6th-highest scoring midfielder on the game. And as Saka is only expected to continue improving at his age, we should see a higher points tally this season.
3. James Maddison, Leicester City (8.0m)
James Maddison had a very productive 2021/22 on FPL, being awarded 12 goals and 11 assists.
This has earned Maddison a similar price-tag to both Saka and Bowen. But the reason Maddison is placed higher on this list and perhaps why you should consider signing him over the aforementioned duo, is because Leicester City have no European football next term, meaning there is less chance he will be rotated and less chance of him picking up an injury/becoming fatigued.
2. Heung-min Son, Tottenham (12.0m)
Heung-min Son comes with a very heavy price-tag this year, but one that is justified.
Son notched the joint-most goals in the Premier League in the previous campaign as well as providing 10 assists.
And as Tottenham are only expected to continue improving under Conte, we can expect a similar return from Son this term.

Death, taxes, Mohamed Salah being the highest-scoring player on FPL.
Salah ended 2021/22 with the most goals and most assists in the Premier League and you must have him in your side if you are to stand any chance of competing in your respective FPL leagues.
