Manchester United have been linked with a second central midfielder this summer after talks from Frenkie de Jong appear to have hit a brick wall.
For most of the summer transfer window, we have seen a new De Jong to Manchester United story emerge.
The latest of which came from Spanish outlet Sport and listed 10 reasons why De Jong will not move to Manchester United.
For those interested, those reasons are as follows:
He has bought a house in Pedralbes
His partner, Mikky Kiemeney, loves Barcelona and has strong links in the city
His dream club is Barça, not United
No Champions League
United are jinxed
The Manchester weather
Convinced he can deliver for Xavi
Barça salary
Doesn’t like the campaign for him to leave
Contacts between Barça and United
Manchester United eye Leandro Paredes
It has been claimed that United had enquired about a potential move for the Argentina international.
However, PSG’s £29.6million asking price is said to be ‘complicating talks’ for the 28-year-old. The report states that United had asked the French champions to conjure up a price for Paredes should they wish to sell him to the Red Devils.
Said price does not seem that high for a talented player such as Paredes. However, he did only make 15 appearances in Ligue 1 last term, perhaps leading United to believe PSG are asking too much for a squad player.
Regardless, it is clear Manchester United need to sign a new defensive midfielder this summer as their current central midfield options are Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek – none of which are that defensive-minded.
