An explanation for Scott McTominay missing Manchester United’s meeting with Aston Villa has been provided.
United are set to face off with Aston Villa on Saturday morning, in their fourth pre-season friendly of the summer.
The Red Devils head into the match on a fine run of form, having seen off Liverpool, Melbourne Victory and Crystal Palace by comfortable margins already this month.
Ahead of the game, Manchester United released their starting line-up just over an hour before kick-off.
The line-up itself proved fairly strong, though Erik ten Hag dismissed suggestions that he was close to finding his best eleven:

One player who missed out on the matchday squad altogether, though, was Scott McTominay, with it since reported that the midfielder is dealing with a ‘little niggle’ and therefore not being risked:
