Spanish giants Barcelona are on the verge of closing a deal for a member of Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea backline, according to reports.
The player in question? Marcos Alonso.
Left-back Alonso, of course, has long been tipped to make the move to the Camp Nou.
Amid the ongoing efforts of those in a position of power at Barcelona to add to Xavi Hernandez’s options on the left, the oft-criticized Chelsea star was identified as a leading target, owing to both his experience, and potential cut-price availability.
This comes with Alonso’s terms at Stamford Bridge due to expire in less than 12 months’ time.
Recent weeks, in turn, had seen contrasting reports spread, regarding the willingness of the powers that be in west London to deal with their Barca counterparts.
This of course comes with the Blaugrana having already beaten Chelsea to the punch in the race for Leeds United star Raphinha this summer, and hopeful of doing likewise in the Jules Kounde sweepstakes.
If the latest word stemming from the media on Sunday is anything to go by, though, then it appears as though Alonso’s Camp Nou switch is not only inching closer, but on the verge of completion.
As per transfer journalist Christian Falk, the Spanish international’s return to his home country is ‘at the final stage’.
A final round of negotiations to close the transfer are understood to be scheduled for a little over a week from now, on the back of Barcelona’s return to base from the United States.
