Barcelona president Joan Laporta has, on Sunday, provided a fresh insight into the future of in-demand midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
The name of Dutch maestro De Jong, of course, has taken its place front and centre in the headlines across the European media throughout the summer to date.
This comes with the 25-year-old having emerged as the priority target of Premier League heavyweights Manchester United, with a view to the 2022/23 campaign.
Any such move would see De Jong reunited with the man who oversaw the finest form of his career to date, in the form of new Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag, giving rise to widespread speculation that a deal between the respective boards at Old Trafford and the Camp Nou was inching ever closer.
And yet, to this point, despite a host of reliable sources having gone as far as to suggest that United had seen a bid accepted by their counterparts in Catalunya, a move has not come to fruition.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of De Jong’s future was put to Barcelona president Joan Laporta.
The Spanish patron, though, went on to confirm that, in fact, the Blaugrana are yet to accept any offers for their sought after midfield star.
This comes with the club keen to ‘talk with him and know exactly what he wants’.
