Thomas Tuchel has sent a transfer message to the Chelsea board as we near the final month of the 2022 summer window.
Todd Boehly has already sanctioned two major summer signings for the Blues. Chelsea have signed Raheem Sterling from Premier League rivals Manchester City.
This was followed by the west Londoners agreeing a deal with Napoli for Serie A star, Kalidou Koulibaly.
Koulibaly was signed for a fee reported to be close to €40m, which is a sizable sum given he is already 31 years of age.
However, Chelsea’s squad could still probably do with some more fresh faces.
Firstly, though they have the numbers, Chelsea still probably need one more quality central defender through the door if Tuchel is aiming to play with a back-three.
The Blues may also need another right-back if Cesar Azpilicueta leaves, whilst some extra firepower up top probably wouldn’t go a miss either.
Now, speaking to Chelsea’s official website regarding transfer targets, Tuchel has outlined what he wants: “We are looking for guys who can play on the left side.
“Toni [Rudiger] played on the left side and was not a left-footed guy, so maybe Kalidou [Koulibaly] can play there because he plays in a back-four on the left side, but let’s see what is possible.
“It is not only about bringing players in for numbers; we need numbers, we also need quality so we will make some decisions late, not only about players but also about systems.
“Ideally we would have a left-footer.”
👥 “We need numbers, we also need quality.”
