An assault charge against footballer Rhian Brewster has been dropped.
The Sheffield United and Scotland forward, 22, had been accused of assaulting a Nottingham Forest fan following a pitch invasion after the Championship playoff semi-final earlier this year.
During a brief court hearing at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court this morning, it was announced the charge of common assault against Brewster had been dropped.
The same charge against his teammate Oli McBurnie, 26, has been adjourned administratively until next Thursday while a review takes place.
Brewster and McBurnie were not required to be in court.
The match on 17 May saw Forest, who went on to earn promotion to the Premier League, win 3-2 on penalties after the tie ended 3-3 on aggregate.
Home fans then invaded the pitch in celebration, during which Sheffield United skipper Billy Sharp was assaulted and a man later jailed.
