PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Maine State Police bomb squad safely detonated a pipe bomb found along with a dead body at a Presque Isle residence.
Presque Isle police were called to a Parsons Street apartment building Thursday to investigate the death of a man who lived there.
While there, they found a suspicious package that turned out to be a pipe bomb, Police Chief Laurie Kelly said Tuesday.
Officers left the building, shut down nearby streets and contacted the Maine State Police bomb squad, Kelly said.
Police were there from early afternoon until well into the evening.
“The bomb [did not detonate] while we were there, but I believe the state bomb squad took it and detonated it in a safe manner,” Kelly said Tuesday.
The man was believed to have been working in Presque Isle, the chief said. His identity has not yet been released because his relatives have not been notified.
Police did not say whether the death was considered suspicious or if it was related to the bomb.
No additional information was immediately available Tuesday.
