I live in Bangor. I grew up in Portland and I have lived in quite a few different places. I have never seen, however, roads as bad as those in the Bangor area, and the interesting thing is how widespread and complete this problem is. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard out-of-towners comment on how bad the roads are. You start heading south and you really wonder why the roads are so much better. What are they doing differently?
I noticed contractors repaving roads and within a year those very roads are all torn up and cracked and uneven.
Is it possible that it is time to look at the people who are paving our roads as a source of the problem? Is it the quality of material? What is it? Could it be man-made obsolescence so as to ensure future work? I really feel like this is a major problem that should get addressed.
