If you’ve ever wanted to visit Acadia National Park but haven’t purchased a pass, there’s a perfect opportunity in store for you this weekend.
Saturday marks the 28th annual National Public Lands Day, during which national parks and other federal public lands will waive all entry fees.
National Public Lands Day was established in 1994, and the National Environmental Education Foundation works in collaboration with the National Park Service to plan volunteer events at national parks and public lands across the U.S. to celebrate the day. It is typically one of the largest single-day volunteer efforts in the nation.
The Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument, a federally protected tract of land in northern Maine, is free to use year-round.
For more information about what national parks across the nation are doing for National Public Lands Day, visit the National Park Service website.
