I believe we need to acknowledge a positive and constructive step in dealing with health care costs. I’m surprised the Maine media is not paying attention to just how important the Inflation
Reduction Act (IRA), which Rep. Jared Golden voted for, will be for people in our state.
The IRA allows for Medicare to negotiate regarding drug costs, such as capping the monthly cost of insulin at $35 for those who are Medicare beneficiaries, helping approximately 15,000 Mainers. It will also help approximately 250,000 seniors by limiting the amount of money those enrolled in Medicare Part D will have to spend on prescription drugs every year to $2,000.
Maine has one of the oldest populations in the country. This bill helps reduce health care costs for many of our seniors, many of whom live on a fixed income. Thank you to Golden and all who are working to address health care issues. Nobody should have to suffer bankruptcy or forgo basic needs because of health care costs.
