Two climate activists have been arrested after gluing themselves to a Picasso painting frame.
The protesters, standing alongside a banner that read “Climate Chaos = War and Famine”, stuck their hands to the glass covering Picasso’s Massacre in Korea at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia.
On Twitter, the group said it had carried out the demonstration to “highlight the connection between climate breakdown & human suffering”.
It then went on to quote David Attenborough: “If we continue on our current path, we will face the collapse of everything that gives us our security.”
Extinction Rebellion’s Victoria branch said: “No arts were harmed in the making of this action.”
Victoria police told local media a 59-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman first glued their hands to the painting at about 12.40pm on Sunday, and were eventually removed just after 2pm.
“They were arrested along with a 49-year-old man and were assisting police with their enquiries,” a spokesman added.
