A road was blockaded with fire and motorbikes raced through part of Edinburgh amid Bonfire Night chaos on Saturday.
Footage shared online showed a motorbike gang racing in the streets with fireworks being set off along the ground, seemingly aimed at people and vehicles.
Edinburgh’s council leader criticised the scenes suffered by the local community, saying what happened was “disgraceful and disgusting”.
Specialist officers were deployed to the Niddrie area of the Scottish capital on Saturday night after a serious disturbance with police urging people to stay indoors.
Niddrie Mains Road was closed to traffic, where earlier in the night a fire had been lit to block the road to passing vehicles. There was also the remains of a temporary bus stop strewn in the street.
A police vehicle had also been struck with a Molotov cocktail, officers said, but nobody had been injured, police said.
Edinburgh City Council leader Cammy Day said: “The scenes the local community had to suffer and witness in Niddrie last night were disgraceful and disgusting.”

He added: “It’s extremely fortunate that no-one was seriously injured as a result – attacks on the emergency services are despicable and reckless behaviour like this endangers lives.
“I would like to reassure residents we are working closely with Police Scotland to ensure the community are safe and appeal to anyone who can help identify those responsible to contact police so they can be dealt with appropriately by the justice system.”
