Two tractor-trailers collided on the Maine Turnpike in Kittery on Thursday morning, leaving one driver with severe but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The crash occurred just after 8 a.m. in the southbound lane near Exit 1, according to Shannon Moss, Maine State Police spokesperson. Manuel Depina-Gonolves, 22, of Boston was driving a box truck when he struck a fully loaded cement truck from behind. The crash left Depina-Gonovles trapped inside the truck and he was extricated by emergency responders, Moss said.
An initial investigation by police indicated that Depina-Gonovles may have been speeding and following the other vehicle too closely prior to the crash, Moss said.
One southbound lane of traffic was shut down but has since been reopened.
Expect delays and use caution in the area.
