A full family! Kody Brown and Janelle Brown (née Schriever) shared a lot of love before their 2022 split — including raising their six children.
The Sister Wives stars’ 1993 spiritual wedding marked their beginning of their plural family. Kody, for his part, was already legally married to Meri Brown when he welcomed Janelle into his life.
He went on to spiritually marry Christine Brown in 1994. The former firearms salesman shook up the dynamic in 2010 when he began seeing Robyn Brown. In 2014, Kody divorced Meri so he could legally wed Robyn and adopt her three children from a past relationship. He then entered into a spiritual relationship with Meri as they all moved forward with their plural lifestyle.
The group proceeded to grow their family with the addition of kids. Kody and Meri welcomed their one child, Leon, in 1995. Nearly three decades later, Meri confirmed in December 2022 that she and Kody had parted ways romantically.
Kody and Christine, who split in 2021, are parents of six children: Paedon, Mykelti, Aspyn, Gwendlyn, Ysabel and Truely.
The Wyoming native also shares six children — Logan, Maddie, Hunter, Garrison, Gabriel and Savanah, with Janelle. His family is rounded out by his and Robyn’s two children, Solomon and Ariella, and his three adopted stepchildren, Dayton, Aurora and Breanna.
Throughout their time on the TLC series, Kody’s life and relationship with Janelle has weathered many storms. Their fractured dynamic became too much to handle during season 17 of Sister Wives, which fans witnessed in 2022.
Following frustrations over their family dynamic — specially Garrison and Gabriel’s alleged disregard for Kody’s COVID-19 rules — Janelle seemingly sided with her kids. In December 2022, the estranged spouses revealed that they had been “separated for several months.”
“I’m not waiting for him. I’ve kind of mourned that that part of our life is gone,” Janelle said on part 3 of the Sister Wives: One-on-One special, which aired in January 2023. “I wasn’t heartbroken. It wasn’t heartbreaking for me.”
The health guru noted that she had been conflicted in the months since she and Kody broke up.
“Part of me thinks, ‘OK, my religion requires that you continue to make a marriage work.’ I deeply believe in my faith,” she confessed. “I have been so much at peace that I don’t know how to reconcile that. I know I’m happy. I don’t want him to come back. But my faith requires that we are married eternally.”
Kody, meanwhile, revealed that while he does still “love her,” he isn’t sure how they can fix their relationship. “I won’t go to a place that I’m not respected,” the reality star said during the episode. “Love doesn’t matter to me, respect matters to me. I want to fix it, yes. That’s a whole new negotiation. We’re in a new place.”
