Will Ferrell has been spotted around the UK during a six-day tour with friends to watch football games around the country – and he seems to be having a great time.
After exciting fans last year by reprising the role of Buddy the Elf in Asda’s latest Christmas advert, the Hollywood star is back in the UK and is making quite the impression.
He popped up on Sky Sports and spoke to football pundits Gary Neville, Micah Richards and Roy Keane, and host Kelly Cates, as they were gearing up for Manchester City’s game with Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.
Reuniting with Roy Keane
Embracing the ex-Manchester United captain, Roy Keane, Ferrell said they had met during Soccer Aid, but could not remember the exact year.
“I don’t know – I can’t even remember last week!” Keane replied.
It turns out they were both on the same “rest of the world” team during the 2012 event, when Keane played in central defence with Manchester United legend Jaap Stam and Ferrell played up front with actor Mike Myers.
Teasing Gary Neville
The pre-match build-up continued with much humour between the comedian and hosts.
“We’ve heard enough from Gary,” Ferrell said as he joked with the Super Sunday pundits. “Sorry, I watch religiously [referring to the show]… until you speak,” he said to Neville.
Being a huge football fan and the co-owner of a club, Ferrell said he was seeing if Manchester City “measure up”, for his Los Angeles FC football team.
Ferrell also told Sky Sports that he watches a “fair amount” of football and that he enjoys “following all the storylines”.
He continued: “It’s obviously a very good league, I’m going to go out on a limb and say there are some very good teams and players here.”

When asked what his plans were in the UK, Ferrell said the trip was planned a couple of years ago and got delayed due to COVID.
“It’s a collection of old friends and we’re just seeing four matches in six days and we’re just having a great time,” he added.
Spotted in the pub
On Saturday, the comedian was spotted in Wrexham by football fans drinking a pint of beer at The Turf before kick-off at a game there.
Wrexham AFC, which is co-owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, went on to win 3-1 against Wealdstone FC in the National League.
Pub-goer Jordan Griffiths was among those who spotted Ferrell and managed to take a snap of him enjoying a pint with the locals.
‘Where are we again?… Wrexham!’
Wrexham AFC shared their excitement with football fans on Twitter.
“All smiles as we kick off against Wealdstone!,” they wrote, with a photo of the star at the game.
In another Tweet by the club, Ferrell is seen in a video, grooming his hair and preparing for the match.
“Hi this is Will Ferrell and it’s my first time here,” he says. “Where are we again?… Wrexham!
“Really excited to see the match… I’ll be honest with you, I’m a little nervous.”
Meanwhile, the comedian’s been making an impression back on home soil too as he featured in a Super Bowl advert for GMC cars, parodying several popular Netflix shows including The Walking Dead, Bridgerton and Stranger Things.
Where will he go next?
