Putting in the work! Viewers have been cheering on Amy Slaton since she began her weight loss journey on the first season of 1000-Lb. Sisters.
The TLC series, which premiered in January 2020, followed the lives of Amy and her sister, Tammy Slaton, as they embarked on their respective health journeys. Amy, for her part, originally weighed in at 406 pounds but her desire to be a mother inspired her to put in the work and drop some weight. (Before the show began airing, the TLC personality tied the knot with her husband, Michael Halterman, in March 2019.)
“When I first met Amy, over two years ago, she weighed over 400 pounds, and one of her goals in life, not only to get married, was to have a baby, and at that point it was impossible for her,” her surgeon, Dr. Charles Procter, Jr., recalled during a January 2022 episode.
The reality star’s doctor crafted a diet and exercise plan for Amy that she followed so she could become eligible for gastric bypass surgery. Following the procedure, Amy slimmed down to 282 pounds, which was shown on the premiere of the second season in January 2021.
In November 2020, Amy achieved her goal and became a mother for the first time when she and her husband welcomed their first child together, son Gage. While she was pregnant with baby No. 1, Amy weighed 288 pounds, according to Dr. Procter.
“Looking at Gage, I just see his whole future basically, as he’s going off to college,” Amy gushed during a confessional during a season 2 episode that documented her eldest son’s birth. “It’s emotional. You can’t really talk about [it] because you just love him so much you don’t have words to explain how much you love him.”
In April 2021, the TV personality showed off the progress of her weight loss journey with before and after photos. In the first picture, Amy noted she wore a 5XL bathing suit while in the second snap she donned an XL. “A lot has changed,” she captioned the post.
The Kentucky native expanded her brood once more when she gave birth to son, Glenn, in July 2022. Amy exclusively told Us Weekly in February 2023 that her family was “complete” and she didn’t have plans to add any more little ones to their group. The YouTube personality also revealed how she balances self-care while being the mom of two young boys.
“As a busy mom, I just take care of them, when they sleep that’s when I get a bath or do other things for myself,” she said to Us.
