A funny love story. Adam Sandler won over wife Jackie Sandler (née Titone) with his sense of humor — and they’ve been going strong ever since.
The pair first crossed paths on the set of 1999’s Big Daddy and sparked a romance soon after. The former model continued to appear in a handful of Adam’s projects over the years — from 50 First Dates to Grown Ups. He popped the question in 2002.
“I played basketball that afternoon, trying to calm down, and then I was driving, I was saying stuff out loud and trying to, you know, make sure I hit all of the right things so she would remember nice stuff, and I did all right,” the Hotel Transylvania actor recalled to ABC. “She called her grandmother right after and her mother, and they all said, ‘Yeah, I heard the applause over the phone,’ and stuff.”
At the time, Adam gushed that it felt “pretty good” to have gotten the engagement over with. “I mean, now I get a little more [pull], you know,” he teased. “I can bring it up in a fight. ‘Hey, I got you that ring. Leave me alone,’ that kind of thing.”
The couple exchanged vows in June 2003 surrounded by A-list pals, including Jack Nicholson and Rob Schneider. Three years later, Adam and Jackie expanded their family with the birth of daughter Sadie.
“You know what was funny? When my kid was born, I was so nervous, I didn’t know what I felt,” the proud dad told Access Hollywood in June 2006. “Five minutes later, maybe 10 minutes later, it was me and the kid and a nurse. We walked down alone to just check the vital signs and all that stuff, and I had a chemical reaction in my body, where I loved the kid so much, and I was so nervous for her, and that’s when I lost my mind for the kid.”
The pair’s second daughter, Sunny, arrived in 2008. Like their mom, Adam’s children have often made cameos in his comedies — but they haven’t always been happy about it.
“They make it look like I’m forcing them to do it,” he teased on The Drew Barrymore Show in 2020. “Meanwhile, they were asking me the whole damn year, ‘Can I be in your next movie, Daddy?’”
Throughout his decades-long career, the New York native has worked alongside Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Aniston and more of Hollywood’s hottest leading ladies. When it comes to Adam packing on the PDA on screen, however, Jackie doesn’t get jealous.
“I’m never excited for romantic scenes, but my wife loves the women I work with,” the Saturday Night Live alum told W Magazine in 2020. “She’s always saying, ‘Come on, make sure you kiss the best you can.’”
