Bittrex, a notable cryptocurrency exchange, said that it will voluntarily halt U.S. operations in an email sent to users on March 31.
The company said it will fully cease operations in the United States at 12 p.m. noon PDT on April 30. It added that April 29 would be the last full day for U.S. crypto withdrawals.
Bittrex said that U.S. customers will have access to their accounts until that time and will be able to withdraw funds until that date.
However, the company also named specific withdrawal deadlines leading up to that date depending on the type of activity concerned.
Bittrex said that this decision will not affect other customers outside the U.S. It said that it will instead focus on its worldwide operations, as team members wrote that they will “put [their] energy and passion for crypto into making Bittrex Global a success.”
Bittrex saw only a modest trading volume of $12 million today. However, the company remains notable due to its age: it launched in 2014, placing it among the earliest crypto exchanges.
