Doja Cat looked absolutely purrfect at fashion’s biggest night.
The “Kiss Me More” singer, 27, slayed the Met Gala on Monday, May 1, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This year’s theme was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” and the California native was seemingly inspired by the late designer by dressing up as his cat Choupette.
The “Say So” artist turned heads in a feline-esque gown by Oscar de la Renta. The bedazzled fit featured 350,000 white sea glass beads that had the Grammy Award winner sparkling all night. The high-neckline gown had an attached headpiece that was finished with built-in pointed ears. The bottom of the frock cascaded into airy feathers that draped into a train behind her. To add even more drama, it was finished with an open back.
For glam, Doja kept the cat theme going with prosthetics. She wore dramatic lashes and eyeliner that looked like a cat’s eye and covered her nose and upper lip with the pet’s iconic features for the transformation. She teamed the makeup with diamond bracelets and long, sharp nails that resembled claws.
Lagerfeld — who died in 2019 at the age of 85 — had a beloved Birman pet named Choupette. Fans were speculating if the animal would attend the annual gala, but on Monday, the cat’s official Instagram page announced that he would not be appearing at the ball. “Many people invited me to walk the red carpet of the #METGALA2023 in tribute to Daddy, but we preferred to stay peacefully & cozy at home,” a caption read.
The “Woman” artist is not one to shy away from bold looks. At the Schiaparelli Haute Couture fashion show in January 2023, she rocked the Italian fashion house by covering her skin in over 30,000 Swarovski crystals. She paired the bejeweled look with a matching red shall, boots and beaded dress.
In January, the “Wine Pon You” singer opened up about her look during an interview with Vogue. “It took a really, really long time to get ready for that one. It was something I have never done before —sure we have done crazy glam looks, but that one was a big jump,” she said at the time. “Designers are showing the best of the best—pure art in fashion, which I love. I like making art in all forms of what I do.”
