And so it begins. Patrick Mahomes and more stars headed to Louisville on Saturday, May 6, for the Kentucky Derby, which serves as the Triple Crown kick off in horse racing.
The Super Bowl LVII champion, 27, was in attendance to give the “riders up” command on Saturday, letting the jockeys know to mount their horses ahead of the race starting.
“Ladies and gentleman, the city of Louisville, the commonwealth of Kentucky and sports fans worldwide have been waiting for this moment — riders up,” he said at the top of the broadcast.
Mahomes donned bright blue trousers with a blue plaid jacket. He complimented the pastel shades with a lavender shirt, which matched the attire of his wife, Brittany Mahomes (née Matthews).
The former soccer player, 27, stunned in a purple tween Chanel dress with pearl straps and a matching handbag. She wore metallic pink lace-up heels with a pink hat. Though it had a wide brim, it was among the more conservative headpieces at the track, topped with just some pearls, a white flower appliqué and a couple of large violet feathers pointing toward the sky.
Elsewhere, Teen Wolf alum Ian Bohen rocked a three-piece navy suit for the occasion. Though the actor has plenty of equestrian experience after appearing as ranch hand Ryan in five seasons of Yellowstone, he joked that he couldn’t convince anyone to let him hop on a horse.
“I told them I need to ride and I have experience but they still though I was #PrettyMischievous so it was a hard no,” Bohen, 46, quipped via Instagram.
Meanwhile, Food Network chef Damaris Phillips and her husband, Darrick Wood, had fun with the fashion rules. She teamed up with her friends for a challenge, explaining via Instagram: “Ok @kentuckyderby here we come! Today our box theme is all about animal print… My goal was to wear as many different prints as possible.”
She certainly won her competition. The Southern & Hungry cohost wore a giraffe-print headpiece, a bag that resembled crocodile skin and cowboy boots with faded leopard spots. Her dress included leopard, zebra and tiger prints, and even a few of the bangle bracelets on her arm were jungle-themed. Her husband, meanwhile, embraced the leopard vibe with the print appearing on his blazer, tie and even a stripe along the side of white trousers.
