Luton have been promoted to the Premier League for the first time in their history after beating Coventry on penalties in the Championship play-off final.
A perfect six spot kicks was enough to secure victory for the Hatters, who will now compete in the top flight of English football for the first time since 1992.
They were relegated from the old first division that year, painfully missing out on being part of the Premier League’s inaugural season, which began just months later.
The Championship play-off final is often dubbed “the richest game in football” due to the huge amount of revenue England’s top clubs generate each season.
Saturday’s show-piece match at Wembley went right to the wire after extra-time ended with the scores level at 1-1.
Jordan Clark’s fine finish in the 23rd minute put the Hatters ahead during a tense affair, and Gustavo Hamer levelled things up past the hour mark.
With the scores level after 90 minutes, extra-time beckoned – and Joe Taylor thought he’d written his name into Luton folklore with what looked like a late winner.

But his apparent goal in the 117th minute was ruled out by VAR for handball, and the match went to penalties.
After five perfect spot kicks from both sides, the shoot-out entered sudden death territory and Luton ended up 6-5 winners.
